As India pursues ambitious renewable energy targets, it can learn from Germany’s transition to renewables. Germany decentralized power to local communities and encouraged energy entrepreneurship, with citizens owning one-third of capacity. Energy storage and making renewables economically beneficial for consumers are other areas of focus. Despite challenges, India has made strides, already achieving half its 2022 target. However, fully realizing its potential requires tapping private sector involvement like Germany. Collaboration with Germany on building codes and grid integration can also help. While contexts differ, India as a developing economy can apply lessons from Germany’s successes and pitfalls to meet its own renewable goals. Absorption of strategy is key.
